Winner of 2002 MIANL Male Artist of the Year and Pop/Rock Artist of the Year, nominated for 2003 East Coast Music Award Best Pop/Rock Artist, singer/songwriter Barry Canning steps back into the limelight with his new album, “Last Man Standing.”

Produced by Great Big Sea frontman Alan Doyle, “Last Man Standing” features co-writes and guest performances by Doyle, Paul Lamb and Cory Tetford of Crush, and Chris Ledrew of Brothers in Stereo. The title track, written by Canning and Doyle, offers an amazing powerhouse of east coast talent with Doyle, Lamb, and Tetford singing on the track. “The new album is a true evolution for me. I am closer to where I want to be as a singer and as a songwriter. I got more personal for these group of songs, I got down to basics.”

A mainstay in the east coast music industry for twenty years, Canning has released three albums, including “Soul Parade” in 2001 which garnered many awards and high acclaim. “I have been known as a singer for a long time, but Soul Parade finally put me on the map as a solid songwriter which is very important to me.” Since the release of “Soul Parade”, Barry has gone on to share the stage with many prominent songwriters such as Daniel Lanois, Ron Sexsmith, Jimmy Rankin, Ron Hynes, and Bruce Guthro.

On stage, Barry has an amazing ability to capture any audience either with just his guitar, or with his touring band. He has been nominated as Entertainer of the Year for two years running by his peers in his home province. “The stage is where it all comes together for me. I get to use my voice to sing songs that I have written about my life and the world around me. It doesn’t get any better than that.” Over the past few years, Barry has shared the stage with America, Great Big Sea, Our Lady Peace, Davis Usher, Colin James, and Crush to name a few.
